Hi. Welcome to the corner of the internet that’s still trying to remember where it left its bicycle.

You know that feeling when you stumble across an old photograph and suddenly remember a completely random summer afternoon from fifteen years ago?

Not your birthday.

Not a major milestone.

Just a Tuesday.

A bike ride. A melting popsicle. A neighbor shouting your name from across the street.

One second you’re answering emails. The next you’re wondering why the smell of freshly cut grass can launch a full-scale emotional attack.

That’s basically WhimsyMe.

What Is WhimsyMe?

WhimsyMe is a blog about nostalgia.

But not the “everything was better back then” kind.

Because let’s be honest.

Some things were objectively worse.

We are not campaigning for dial-up internet.

We are not bringing back low-resolution family cameras.

And we are definitely not pretending every childhood was perfect.

What we’re interested in is something else.

The small things.

The things we didn’t realize were important until they quietly disappeared.

The traditions.

The rituals.

The neighborhoods.

The anticipation.

The simple joys that somehow got replaced by notifications, algorithms, and the mysterious ability to spend forty-five minutes scrolling without remembering a single thing you saw.

Somewhere Along the Way…

Summer became another thing we scheduled.

We stopped knocking on doors.

We stopped being bored.

We stopped sitting outside just because the weather was nice.

We gained convenience.

We lost a few things too.

WhimsyMe exists to explore both.

Not because the past is a place we should live in.

But because sometimes it has useful advice.

What You’ll Find Here

Nostalgic Stories

The kind that make you say:

“Wait. I forgot we used to do that.”

Forgotten Traditions

The little customs, habits, and experiences that made ordinary days feel special.

Seasonal Living

Because summer isn’t a calendar date.

It’s a feeling.

And frankly, a lot of us could use more of it.

Reflections on Life

The weirdness of growing up.

The passage of time.

Why years seem faster now.

How to notice life while it’s happening instead of only appreciating it in hindsight.

Practical Ideas

Not just memories.

Actual ways to create more joy, connection, community, and meaning today.

Because nostalgia is nice.

But making new memories is better.

Why I Started This Blog

At some point I realized something strange.

People weren’t just nostalgic for places.

They were nostalgic for feelings.

The feeling of endless summers.

The feeling of knowing your neighbors.

The feeling of being fully present.

The feeling that ordinary moments mattered.

And maybe they did.

Not because they were extraordinary.

But because we were paying attention.

WhimsyMe started as an attempt to preserve those feelings.

Then it became an attempt to help create new ones.

What I Believe

I believe:

That boredom is underrated.

That traditions matter.

That community matters.

That memories are built from ordinary days.

That the best stories usually start with someone saying:

“This might be a terrible idea, but…”

I believe you’ll miss today someday.

Which sounds depressing.

But it’s actually the opposite.

It’s an invitation.

Pay attention.

Stay a little longer.

Take the long way home.

Call someone.

Watch the sunset.

Buy the ice cream.

The Goal

WhimsyMe isn’t here to convince you that life peaked in 1997.

Or 2007.

Or whenever you think summer was at its best.

The goal isn’t to go backward.

The goal is to bring the best parts forward.

To remember what mattered.

To create more of it.

And maybe to laugh a little when we realize adulthood mostly consists of trying to remember why we walked into a room.

Stay Awhile

If you’ve ever felt homesick for a time rather than a place…

If you’ve ever missed a version of yourself…

If you’ve ever looked at an old photograph and felt something you couldn’t quite explain…

You’re in the right place.

Pull up a chair.

There’s plenty of room on the porch.
